Alan Nash (The Netherlands)
Alan Nash runs the Dutch School for Classical Shiatsu since 1987. He started in 1972 in the UK with an Indian teacher and carried his training over into foot reflexology and healing. The techniques he learned and practiced initially were simple and effective, and still are, but it was in the Netherlands that he started Shiatsu and DO-IN.
The Ki to the doors of awareness
It is the live demonstration of how Shiatsu can go further than most people are aware of. It is my privilege to allow people to experience not only Setsu shin (the spirit of touch) but also the use of Ki extraction of sometimes difficult to define unease and “negative” alignments of the accumulated repressions and expressly hidden impressions. I would add that DO-IN is inextricably linked with Shiatsu and my life partner Anushka Hofman will be present to give a live workshop in DO-IN in my sessions. Most of the teachers of DO-IN in the Netherlands have studied with and been qualified by her and she has become the foundation of DO-IN in the Netherlands. She is a qualified teacher of the first level of the Shiatsu accredited diploma course at our school for more than 20 years.
Diagnosis is the root when it comes to helping other people and an ability to see beyond the immediate in order to find the best and most efficient approach even if it means that time must be given to listening with more than our ears and verbally communicating (Mon shin) with more than just words. One must be very aware when looking for the real Kyo (emptiness) and Jitsu (fullness) in daily life.
As with so many therapies, one must adapt old and ancient knowledge to be able to apply it in the times in which we live (this is called On Ko Shi Shin in Japanese). My friend and teacher Y. Kawada sensei has told me that I am very good at it.
In summing up, I would like to thank you all again and am enthusiastically looking forward to making a contribution to the ESC 2020 event with my life partner and helping to raise the awareness of all who would like to understand just how compassionate and powerful Shiatsu can be. I will be bringing qualified assistants from my school to help everybody attending my sessions.
